Fiction > Middle Grade
As readers transition from younger books towards books for more mature readers it can be hard to find the right thing. Middle grade books are most suited to readers aged 11-15 and are a gentler transition toward young adult fiction.
Themes around friendship, community, family, social situations and even world-wide issues are dealt with through relatable characters. Readers are often looking to read about the experiences of those slightly older than them as they enter their tween and early teenage years and start to figure out their personal ideas and positions as a more independent individual. Reading offers a chance to learn from the experiences, successes and mistakes of others, to think through a different perspective and reflect on how they would face a similar situation. This enables the building of empathy and understanding, towards others and ourselves.
